When i saw this trend a few months ago on almost every blogger and celebrity, I deliberately ignored it simply because I was in denial about the fact that my favourite teenage accessory made a comeback or it might be because I overdid it a few years back in my grey knit texture beret and wasn't ready for the return of it.
The beret go as far back as WWII when the french soldiers wore them. Dior and Chanel are mostly to blame for the return of the beret, they used it on their runway in 2017 needless to say, it has always been around and has made a big come back this season.
I eventually went out and bought one and guess what... I love it!! I got one in pink (of course) and pearls and they were so affordable, I haven't styled it yet, but have a look book planned for my Youtube Channel (Chandre A) for the month of April.
As much as I am starting to fall for the beret trend.. I am fully aware that it is such a deal breaker for any outfit, it can take your outfit from zero to hero and vice versa if not styled correctly. Here are a few tips on how to style a beret:
- Use the beret as the focal point of your outfit
May that be as a pop of colour with a plain tone colour outfit or with a tee and denim (flawless make up can enhance this look)
- Style it in a casual / minimalist way
As much as wearing a beret makes you want to push towards dressing like a Parisian, don't be afraid to wear it with a casual outfit.
- Style with sunglasses
The smaller and pointier your sunglasses the better.
- Style it with a edge
Play around with textures, prints, colours, embroidered prints to add an element of edginess to your outfit.
- Match it with your coat
This is similar to the matching clothing sets trend but it just takes it up a notch by matching an accessory with your coat in the same colour
